Northern Ballers Doc Completed!

It has taken over a year of battling, bad whether, delayed trains, and a lot of evening takeaways, however the Northern Ballers documentary, directed by talented film maker Rhys Aaron Lewis, has been completed. The film stars members of the Leeds LDM 19/20 U16 team, as they navigate their way through their first season as a team together. We are provided with an insight into the lives of two players in particular, Cameroon born Andy Toukam and Chapeltown resident Benjamin Walker, who powerfully describe why basketball means so much to them, expressing sentiments that could just as easily be repeated by a young person living in a multitude of other major British inner cities.

At 20 minutes long, the film highlights the unique position basketball holds in this country; in that it has extremely high participation numbers at youth level, especially among those from BAME and low income backgrounds, however is not adequately funded at the top level. We are excited by the final edit of the film and look forward to what the future holds for all involved.

The film debuts at Bolton film festival on the 19th October and will tour the festival circuit over the coming months until its release online.
