Black History Month Event
The running of an event during a pandemic was never going to be easy. With no food or spectators allowed, we managed to create a great basketball event to celebrate Black History Month at LDM Basketball, with coverage of the day provided by a takeover of Basketball England’s Instagram page. The day started with fun games and prizes for the junior age groups in the morning, which then moved on to fixtures in the afternoon. Players for the u16s 19/20 season got to view the first ever screening of the ‘Northern Ballers’ Documentary, which so far has got excellent reviews from those who have watched it.
The first fixture of the afternoon was the U16s Conference team’s friendly against Sheffield Swarm in an exciting, sometimes fiery, game which ended in a narrow 47-44 loss for the team. Next the U18s men team had a chance to level the score against their Sheffield Swarm counterparts, doing exactly that in a 47-43 victory in coach Ariel’s first game with the team. The u18s also saw the launch of their new kit for the season, in a partnership with LS10 based restaurant, Afrochops. We finished the weekend on the Sunday, as the LDM U16 Ballers played their first game together, overcoming Deighton Basketball Club 43-39.
Overall it was fantastic celebration of Black History!
