#LetsBall - Giving away 200 Basketballs to young people in Leeds
This week we launched our #LetsBall campaign, where we aim to get as many young people in Leeds playing basketball as possible. In order to help facilitate this, we have teamed up with Street Games and the Basketball England ‘Project Swish’ campaign to give away 200 Basketball England edition Wilson Basketballs to young people living in some of the city’s most deprived areas.
We recognise that having access to a ball is an experience many take for granted; we understand that in order to give young people fairer opportunities in the sport, we need tackle the barriers that leave some young people at a disadvantage compared to their peers. In addition to this, a recent Street Games report, revealed that young people from lower income backgrounds have been disproportionately impacted when it comes to accessing sport and physical activity during the lock down.
Therefore, as well as handing out free basketballs, we will also be bringing free outdoor sessions to communities in Leeds throughout the summer holidays. Keeping in line with government and national governing body guidance on reducing the spread of COVID-19, we will be running sessions in the Beeston, Chapeltown and Seacroft areas of Leeds. We are very much looking forward to a great summer of basketball. #LetsBall.
