Free Youth Service Sessions Boosting Basketball Participation
Did you know we run free basketball sessions in Leeds every Tuesday and Saturday?
Thanks to our partnerships with Leeds Youth Service’s Inner North East, West and North West teams, we’ve been delivering free basketball sessions throughout the academic year—giving hundreds of local young people the opportunity to play without financial barriers.
Where and when?
Armley Leisure Centre – Tuesdays, 3:45PM - 4:45PM
Mandela Centre – Saturdays, 2:00PM - 4:00 PM
Our Saturday sessions at the Mandela Centre have seen significant growth, often taking place between two home fixtures, creating a lively basketball atmosphere. With nearly 50 young people attending each week, these sessions—led by Coach Shaq—offer a relaxed and welcoming space for players of all levels.
Beyond basketball, these sessions provide access to a range of activities and support from Leeds City Council Youth Workers, helping young people develop both on and off the court.
As we move into the spring and summer months, we anticipate further growth. To accommodate more players and increase visibility, we will also be utilising the outdoor courts at the Mandela Centre, expanding capacity and making the sessions more accessible.
We're looking to get as many local young people aged 11-17 involved in these free sessions. If you know someone who would benefit, encourage them to come along—no sign-up, no cost, just a great opportunity to play basketball in a fun and supportive environment.
